Evolution 2013 Game Lineup Announced!

by Rip

MrWizard just announced the Evolution 2013 lineup on WakeupSRK. He said that running six games made Evo2012 run too late last year, so… with that being said, this year there will be 8 games! Thats ridiculous and I love it lol. To try to space it out, they’re moving some of the finals to Saturday so for Sunday Finals there will only be five games. The list of games for Evolution 2013 is as follows:

- Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
- Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition 2012
- Tekken Tag Tournament 2
- Mortal Kombat 9
- Street Fighter x Tekken v2013 – 1 vs 1 (Wiz has new info on Gems, so no announcement about new rules for it)
- King of Fighters XIII
- Persona 4:Arena
- ??? PLAYERS CHOICE ???

Major League Gaming – Fall Championship 2012 – Tekken Tag Tournament 2

by Rip

The Major League Gaming Fall Championship is underway and yesterday the Koreans dominated over the Americans in Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Anakin was sent to the loser bracket by JDCR and Pokchop was sent to losers by HelpMe. Today Kor will go against Saint and other Americans like BossArario and Kane will battle it out to see who will have to face the other koreans. Should be a really exciting event. Follow the brackets live here! Watch the stream live at 11am CDT and catch the day 1 archive at own3d.tv:

2012 Tournament Season – All about Soul Calibur 5 for 3D Fighters?

by Rip

Yesterday on Wakeup SRK, MrWizard announced the games list for Evolution 2012. The games are Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition 2012, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, King of Fighters XIII, Mortal Kombat 9, Soul Calibur 5, and Street Fighter x Tekken. This of course means that Tekken 6 has been dropped.

It sucks, but its not very surprising considering Tekken’s relatively low turnout last year, the age of the game, and the spectator response everytime Tekken comes on a stream. Seems like the general Tekken franchise might need to be revamped. Around the 28 minute mark MrWizard explains why Tekken 6 was not chosen – and I disagree with most of his points, but at least he’s looking forward to Tekken Tag 2 being at Evo in 2013. The MOST interesting note from that podcast though was MrWizard mentioning that Street Fighter x Tekken may NOT be a 1v1 event! For this year though Tekken will still be represented by Street Fighter x Tekken and Namco will still have its 3D fighter presence with Soul Calibur 5.

Speaking of which, WinterBrawl will host a Soul Calibur 5 tournament that will be a qualifier tournament for ATL Final Round this year. Top 16 players at WinterBrawl will be seeded at ATL Final Round and have their event badge and tournament entry fees paid for. The first place finisher will receive roundtrip airfare to Final Round as well. Arcade cabinets of the latest version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will also be available at both events for everyone to play on.

For these upcoming Soul Calibur 5 tournaments Namco has provided a $1000 prize bonus for Winter Brawl and a $5000 prize bonus for Final Round! Time to start practicing!

Been wanting to get back into MK9. Last week NetherRealms released a patch with a ton of changes. This is easily the largest patch the game has gotten and also the most significant. Kung Lao has been nerfed a bit and Noob has been fixed a bit!

• MOTD handling and displaying code was tweaked.
• Fixed a bug that could have resulted in tweakvars getting corrupted.

MK9 Retro Cyber Sub Zero and Human Sub Zero – Free DLC Skins

by Rip

NetherRealms is back with more free content for Mortal Kombat 9! Coming with the release of the Freddy Kreuger DLC will be two new Sub Zero skins, one for the regular Sub and the other for the cyber version. I’m 99% sure that there never was a retro Cyber Sub so its pretty cool that they threw it in. Human Sub was my main in UMK3 so I’m happy to see him back. Check it out below:

Avoiding The Puddle Podcast 23 – Evo Recap and TTT2

by Rip

Aris and MYK are back with another Avoiding the Puddle podcast. Really good recap of all of the Tekken related things that happened in the last two weeks. Also some cool insights on the latest build of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 that we played at Evolution. Apparently, the new Tag Crash feature costs Netsu to allow a safe tag-in for your partner. Great listen as always, check it out.
